Project Kermit Technical Archives

Project Kermit is a 1978 Land Rover Series 3 109 (long wheel base) which is being stripped right down and rebuilt with a 200tdi engine and a few other improvements.

Here I will post up any info I think may be useful to my future self or anyone else out there taking on a similar project.

When the project is done (nearly there!) I will provide an index on this page of all the episodes so any part of the build can be cross referenced with the episode it appears in.

The whole series of videos can be found in this playlist (it might seem odd to start a Land Rover build with a video about a Range Rover, but that’s where the engine came from!):

Chassis (zinc) drain holes: These pictures show Kermit’s chassis after dipping in zinc and after painting. There are a series of hi-res photos intended as reference photos. I also printed out some drawing of the chassis and marked out on them (in red) the locations of the extra holes I drilled in the chassis before it went off for dipping. Locations are approximate, there are only drain holes after all! These extra holes in the chassis were copied directly from a new replica galvanised chassis (from Richards).
